I have a lot of projects on the go at the moment, but not so many in the can and ready to be blogged about. Yesterday, I was working on a rather complicated bracelet and the threads kept getting knotted. This morning I looked at it sideways, and it got a few more knots. Fair enough. I had another idea in mind and I merrily started on yet another beading project. That too decided to be 'knotty'. So, after a small hissy fit, I decided to turn my lemons into lemonade and do some macrame. {Macrame is a form of textile-making using knots.} I came up with a couple of bracelets shown here. Now hasn't macrame come a long way since the plant hangers circa 1975?
The large white beads are feather light and are strung on waxed cotton. I wish I could remember what they are made of. I got them from Michael's and I think they are a kind of seed. I can definitely say they are not bone, a material that I do not use. I made a simple knot between each bead, and finished it with a square knot closure. The bracelet with the gold cage beads and brown faceted beads is also strung on waxed cotton and there are two square knots between each bead. I made a closure using a pretty gold finished button. Also in the mix is a simple elastic strung bracelet made with gold seed beads, a thrifted shell bracelet, and a sparkly rhinestone bracelet that I bought at a long gone pop up store.
Today, my bracelets are on display with the help of a lovely cast iron bird.

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI only know the plant hangers made of macrame, I never thought that with that technique one can make such beautiful and artful things. My favorite is the one with the white flowers, so amazing!
So pretty! I love the second one in, and the bird you use to display them is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteThey're all beautiful!!! I'm drooling over the white flower macrame one that you made!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun working with beads. We made lots of glass bead earrings over at the store one day to sell. These bracelets are beautiful and especially nice grouped together like this. Have a good weekend and have fun with all your projects! Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com
